Doctor Strange: New Marvel trailer reveals new characters – and teases some you may have seen before

As with Spider-Man: No Way Home, there have been casting rumours swirling for some time for the latest Marvel instalment, with the likes of Tom Cruise (Iron Man), John Krasinski (Mr Fantastic) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) all linked to the movie – though none of this is confirmed.

The latest trailer for the Doctor Strange sequel dropped during the Super Bowl ad breaks, teasing a number of new characters as well as some we may have seen before.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness picks up after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which Strange himself accidently opened Marvel’s multiverse – the idea that there are infinite universes, and infinite versions of ourselves.

Doctor Strange 2: Marvel fans convinced they spotted Iron Man in trailer – but not as you know him

The trailer, which shows off impressive CGI and mind-bending effects, surprised fans when Patrick Stewart seemingly appeared.

A voice, thought to belong to Stewart, says “we should tell him the truth” as the camera sits behind a bald-headed figure.

Stewart is likely reprising his X-Men character, Professor Xavier, in the film, with fans believing that Marvel’s Illuminati will make an appearance.

As with Spider-Man: No Way Home, there have been casting rumours swirling for some time for the latest Marvel instalment, with the likes of Tom Cruise (as an Iron Man variant), John Krasinski (rumoured to be the new Mr Fantastic) and Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) all linked to the movie – though this is mostly educated speculation.

Elsewhere in the clip, which aired during the infamously expensive Super Bowl ad slots, we see Ultron return in the form of robots, Gargantos, a giant tentacled monster, makes its MCU debut and even zombie versions of the main characters appear.

The movie is part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which charts the events after Avengers: Endgame and the defeat of Thanos.

The multiverse’s origins formed part of Tom Hiddleston’s Loki show on Disney+, which set in motion the rest of the studio’s films.

Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness hits cinemas on 6 May 2022.
